H.R. 20, or The Money Out of Politics Bill

Several days ago, a DU'er was saying that the system is broken.

It is.

Russ Feingold has a righteous Progressive Organization that is up and running.

If you want to join them or contact them, here's the skinny on that:

Recently they sent me an email about H.R. 20, which has a shot at getting passed this year.

H.R. 20 would take the money out of politics.

But to get it passed, Congress has to hear from us.

Above link is so you can go and add your name to the petition to offer Congress encouragement to get this done.

Excellent question. It appears to not exist for the 113th Congress. MH1 Feb 2014 #2

1. A few questions:

Do you have a link to the text of the bill itself? I can't find one.

Unless the text contains the wording of an amendment to the Constitution to be put before the states for ratification, it can't do anything to ameliorate the ill effects of Citizens United.

Finally, aren't we half way through the 113th Congress? How can a bill just recently introduced be numbered as low as H.R. 20?

Thanks!

(thomas.loc.gov redirected me to this site, beta.congress.gov - does look more user-friendly)

Maybe that's an old petition?

They can I think re-write a bill and that way get a lower number.

But I plan on calling the ph number tomorrow and asking what is up, in total.

I just got the email from them this morning, and I was not cleaning out my huge inbox so I don't totally know what is going on.
