Wanna see an excellent example of the subtle way American media lies to you?

At the link there is a list of results when you Google the word "unemployment extension" on Google News. You'll note that 99% of the articles written by media about this issue PURPOSELY mislead the reader. Almost all of the results from major media offer in their headlines that "the Senate" did not pass the bill that would extend benefits to the 1.7 million laid off workers that have seen their benefits expire. You'll note that the headline is a subtle lie because it was not "the Senate" that stopped this bill, it was THE REPUBLICAN PARTY that filibustered the bill. Modern American media wants you to be MISinformed.

a Faux News reporter must have taken a job at the New York Times.....Faux does that all the time...take a half truth and twist it to keep people from realizing the truth.

This happens all the time. It's really sad that american mainstream corporate media is so horrendous. In the interest of 'being objective to both sides' they often don't report the anti-worker crap that the republican party promotes non-stop. It's the party of multi-millionaire and billionaire short-sighted greed heads and the military industrial complex. It's not the party of average workers and veterans. The spineless and self-interested massive corporate media backs it up with propaganda like that.

The senate did, in fact, stop the bill. The Senate, when speaking of its functions and results, is spoken of as a whole body. This is because parties are transitory articles that aren't actually part of the senate, but instead convenient means of aligning senators. So yes, the Senate failed to pass the bill. That statement is completely truthful, and concisely answers the "what" question.

It's just that they then leave out all the other questions - Why, How, Who? it's not a lie. It's framing.

...is still lying. If they do not make any attempt to tell who in the Senate was responsible for the outcome then they have withheld information and that in my book amounts to lying.

Also: the attempt to frame the story is really an attempt to frame it *falsely*. "The Senate failed to pass (whatever bill)", taken by itself, without further explanation, implies that a vote was taken and there were not enough votes, end of story. If that is all that is said, then it leaves a false impression. Journalists should not be leaving false impressions, especially when they have all the relevant information and could easily present the truth.

And they will keep diverting your attention away from truth and facts so that you can believe you have a reason to hate him....if race is not your thing already.
