Meet the newest U.S. Senator: John Walsh (D) Montana

there will be a primary. Two others have announced. Tester, Baucus and Governor Bullock have all endorsed Walsh.

Walsh is not without weaknesses that repukes will try to exploit:

In December 2013 the Montana Television Network reported that a 2010 Army Inspector General report concluded that Walsh had used the Adjutant General's post for "private gain." According to the report, Walsh used his position to "pressure" subordinates into joining the National Guard Association of the United States in an effort bolster Montana's membership numbers as a way to enhance Walsh's credentials during his candidacy for Vice President of NGAUS.[15][16]

In response, Walsh stated that he disagreed with the IG, pointing out that he was not disciplined. Walsh went on to say that the IG report stemmed from a disagreement in interpreting the rules which govern when and how Department of Defense employees can take part in activities such as running for a NGAUS leadership position.[17]

Walsh further pointed out that the NGAUS position is an uncompensated one which required him to travel to meetings at his own expense. In Walsh's defense, former Governor Brian Schweitzer said that when he received the report in 2010, he considered it "much ado about nothing."[18]

Beyond what I've read today, I know nothing about Walsh and this Senate race. I do know that the likely republican candidate is a tea party nut, so hopefully this is a seat that dems can keep. better a corrupt dem than an insane religious and corrupt puke.

Tea Party support could put Daines in hot water

The last two weeks of U.S. Rep. Steve Daines’ Senate run have been steeped in Tea Party politics, first with a $400,000 ad blitz thanking Montana’s lone congressman for opposing Obamacare, and then liberal accusations the Republican is “tea stained.”

Daines told The Billings Gazette on Thursday that he wasn’t casting votes for the Tea Party, as he and other Republicans withheld votes to fund the federal government unless changes were made to the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare.

The government consequently shut down last October until House Republicans, including Daines changed course and voted to fund the government for a few months, while Senate Democrat and House Republican leaders hammered out a one-year budget.

That one-year budget bill passed last week with bipartisan support, but Daines voted no and liberals quickly accused Daines of risking another shutdown and siding with Tea Party Republicans. The budget bill zeroed out compensation to counties with thousands of acres of tax-free federal lands. Daines said he couldn't support the cut, which was harmful to local Montana governments, and therefore opposed the budget bill.
