Bail denied for Florida Movie Theater Shooter

The 71-year-old ex-police officer accused of shooting dead a man inside a Florida movie theater won't get the chance to go home -- at least for now -- after a judge Friday decided not to grant him bail.

Judge Pat Siracusa made his decision after two days of sometimes wrenching testimony inside a Dade City, Florida, courtroom, saying prosecutors sufficiently made their case that Curtis Reeves should not be given the opportunity to leave custody.

It's confusing or it's edited or both. I don't hear a gun shot on the audio either.

Good call by the judge to keep ex-cop in custody.

Here is a better video with explanation:

Wow - even Reeves' own wife does not support his story (from my link above):

Reeves' wife, Vivian, also told detectives she didn't see Oulson hit Reeves.

In a recorded interview, she said Oulson "stood up and turned around and was just right there leaning over. It looked like his whole body came forward."

She said she didn't hear Oulson threaten her husband or see Reeves' gun. The whole thing "happened so fast" and she said she saw no sign of Reeves having been injured.

Much better.

The off duty cop that was in the theater, said he saw Reeves tell his wife "to STFU and not say another word" after the shooting, testified in court at yesterday's hearing.

I am glad that no one has to worry about this shooter for a while. I was afraid that the character witness testimony from his fellow police officers would outweigh the facts of this case.

Can we go back into this "officer's" history and see what other "actions" he may have taken in the course of "doing his duty?"
I really do have a fear that there are too many "certified" officers/civil servants out there that are walking time bombs.

Even his wife knew that he was wrong and he told her to shut the **** up! Just listening to the off duty deputy who was there with his son telling what he overheard between the guy and his wife was grounds to keep the guy locked up.

Saw him draw his gun then shoot and felt threatened by "an active shooter" and shot him. Then another guy would see that shooting and feel threatened...

Good way to thin the herd of "good guys" with guns...

What? It's the law in Florida.

The man is a danger to the rest of us.

Personally, I think the other guy acted like an asshole that day. Up until the point where the old guy committed murder, I think most of us would have sided with him.

I'll play a Monday morning, arm-chair Psychologist here (yes, I know I'm mixing my metaphors) but I think part of what set this guy off was that he was used to being able to tell people what to do, and have them do it. He had a badge and uniform for years...that gets results. I think he was pissed that when he tried to exercise his no longer present authority, and nothing happened, he got mad.

Sad case all around. One life needlessly ended, and at least three forever saddened.

type of behavior seems normal to so many. Not fair to convict him right now, but I do have strong feelings that his action was in no way warranted. I also should add that I feel that the gun situation and the "stand your ground" law is becoming a "license to kill!"

And unfortunately it has seemed in the past that real justice doesn't prevail.

Thank goodness he didn't shoot them first.

A couple of weeks prior in the same movie theater another couple was harrassed by Reeves about their texting....

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/15/justice/florida-movie-theater-shooting/index.html

This guy liked to carry a gun because it made him feel bold - that he could say or do anything to anyone that annoyed him, and that's exactly the wrong sort of person that should carry a gun. Having a gun on you should make one more cautious about getting into altercations, not go looking for them.

I'm glad his bail was denied. Granted, Oulson behaved like a mannerless ass, but that's a ridiculous reason to shoot them dead.

BTW, no one seems to be mentioning that Oulson's wife was ALSO shot though in the hand, but she likely needs more surgery on it. I hope there are charges against him for her being shot as well.
