How progressives gave peace with Iran a chance

This was anything but inevitable. As recently as a month ago, there was strong momentum in the Senate for a sanctions bill, as Democratic senators from Kirsten Gillibrand to Richard Blumenthal bucked Obama and signed on.3

Since then, one Democratic co-sponsor after another has said they don't support a vote while negotiations continue. Republicans like Rand Paul and Jeff Flake have come out against the sanctions bill. And now this attempt to increase sanctions and undermine diplomacy is at least temporarily on ice.

All of us should be proud that our voices were heard and helped stop what could've been yet another rush to war. Now it'll be on all of us to stay vigilant and continue to create the political space for President Obama to pursue diplomacy.

Thanks for all you do.
