(18,402 posts)Or at least any more sorry than for anyone who at age 82 is diagnosed with a disease. At least he's alive to talk, and he's been working consistently throughout the years. He's already exceeded the average life expectancy (78.7), and he claims still to be enjoying life.
Look at Cory Monteith or Philip Seymour Hoffman--dead at 31 and and 46, respectively. No second chances with hard drugs.

Quite a few people in the entertainment industry live into their 90's.
The famous have the money to buy grand health care.
I remember Yul Brynner and Laurence Harvey making passionate pleas for
people to understand how smoking shortened and ruined their live.
I am pretty sure Mr. Nimoy's message on smoking will be aimed at the under 82 years old crowd.

(23,267 posts)I remember reading an article in the early '80s about how he was constantly on his co-stars in a stage play he was doing. He said he could tell one of them had gone back to smoking because his voice was not projecting.

(10,409 posts)He'd quit smoking in the 1970's, but the damage was done. He'd started smoking in the Army in Korea, so he smoked for about 20 years.
I would not be surprised if Leonard said "Smoking is illogical."
