(68,644 posts)Highway 17 San Jose toward the coast.
Forced into the center concrete divider by a driver who was forced into me.
Ruined a wheel, gash in my dome, blood dripping while I changed tires to the sorry ass spare but didn't hit anyone or anything other than that big concrete divider, which as it turns out is really well designed.
No body damage to the car, little bit to me.
Was only five minutes late to my appointment in Rio Del Mar!
Then spent the rest of the day finding a wheel and tire to match original factory spec.
Stay safe - glad it wasn't worse

(68,644 posts)I would not likely have gone into oncoming traffic, but can't be sure. That divider has saved some lives, dozens if not hundreds.
I lost traction and the traction control and my actions probably worked against one another, in the end I glanced the divider with some force, enough to gash my scalp.
But the damage was limited to the wheels, no part of the body of my car hit the concrete.
Post impact I pictured a totaled car with fender and bumper and front end damage. I got off the highway and quickly put the little spare on and drove away, still bleeding from my head wound.
I learned that with the donut spare on, the car doesn't perform well- the traction control constantly engages and I worried that this would be a lasting problem that would need major attention.
I had to drive a couple hundred miles to find a replacement wheel and once I had it on the traction problem was gone.
$120 for the new wheel and tire, $20 more to mount, and you'd never known it happened.
Except the gash.
Drive safely, and check your spare for air pressure (mine was at half the pressure it should have had, the car is 2007 model year)

(90,642 posts)Ha -- this last bit gave Goleta 1/100 of an inch of measurable precipitation. There was rejoicing in Lompoc and San Luis Obispo because they got "almost an inch."
That's what we need, though -- slow but frequent, so the soil softens up gradually.

(46,436 posts)Seriously, everybody be careful down there. I was hoping you'd get a couple of weeks of gentle rain, not several months' worth in a day.

(10,893 posts)yesterday was one of the few days where I hoped it would not rain. I was supposed to meet someone for coffee, and I got drenched as I was walking to the coffee shop. My jeans almost went from blue to dark blue, and even my leather gloves were soaked. I finally got to experience what real Humboldt weather is like, except it was not exactly at a convenient time.

(15,262 posts)Albeit, Rains melting snow too fast can result in flooding. We just escaped the worst case scenario with a dry day and slow start to the warm up.

(209 posts)Snow level went as high as 8000' so it was mostly rain here at Lake Level (Tahoe)...It's been non stop since Friday and still expected to go thru the nite.
The little creek in the meadow at the end of our street is FULL, actually, the whole meadow looks like a moat right about now. It keeps trying to turn into snow but it is a warm storm... if it does finally freeze tonight tomorrow morning will be a PITA
rain+snow=Sierra Cement
However, the water (in all its forms) is very welcome, I am sure the forest is very happy right about now...

(10,133 posts)We've had a long dry spell, and finally, finally are getting the normal kind of rain we should have been getting the last two months. Along with all the flooding and landslides that come with it. Given that last year was the driest ever recorded in San Francisco, and this year looks like it will be up there, I'm not going to complain.
