If anybody is on the roads before April, I will be surprised.
I am in worst part of it on maps. We are under a winter storm warning.
It really could take down power lines and such.

(26,259 posts)Since I have NO desire to ever suffer through another extended power outage, I just had a generator hard wired into the house so now I can keep the fireplace insert and water pump going and the sump crock empty. I figure with the weather weirding out at such a ridiculous level, I'll eventually get my money worth out of that purchase.

(23,720 posts)is it still on the ground?
Glitterati
(3,182 posts)It was in the 60s the weekend after the snow.

(23,720 posts)Did all those nuts down there who thought it was special demon snow sent by O'bama to terrorize them- heads explode when they saw it melt?
Glitterati
(3,182 posts)And, no, it didn't convince the whack jobs that it was real snow.
Just yesterday, a freak from my neighborhood posted a glass of "melted snow" he put in the freezer on Facebook to prove it was Obama snow because it was milky.
There people are just plain idiots. Fools. Gullible fools.

(522 posts)I'll be fine if we don't lose power. My cupboards, fridge and freezer are always good for several days or even weeks. But with an all electric house, don't know what I will do for heat if we get the ice they are calling for.
Glitterati
(3,182 posts)although the blower on the furnace is electric, the fireplace and the kitchen stove are natural gas.
We may end up confined to the front of the house after closing off the bedrooms, but we won't freeze and I can still cook.

(16,199 posts)Use the 1-K clear kerosene and you should be all set for heat.

(2,883 posts)I bought my first Kerosene heater when I lived in north Georgia. Now, I wouldn't be without one.

(1,367 posts)So we installed a couple of pellet stoves and bought a generator to run the blowers, a few lights and the refrigerator.

(3,182 posts)then adding the stuff for Wednesday and Thursday on top of that.
According to them, it's gonna get really ugly.
Since it's for 1:30 tomorrow, I fully expect the 4th doctor appointment I've had canceled since January 23.

(3,182 posts)This one is gonna be a multi-day event. It will start snowing tonight, switch to freezing rain tomorrow then stop for a little bit and start freezing rain again all day Wednesday into Thursday morning.
We're going to have snow covered over with ice over 3 days.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Well, hey, here's some more snow for you!

(7,720 posts)Russia is warmer than the Deep South. Classic.

(7,720 posts)Sochi is on the Black Sea and has palm trees and has a humid subtropical climate the same you have on the Gulf, however Sochi is about 15 degrees farther north in latitude. The big difference is the snow cappd Caucus Mountains 30 minutes outside the city.
NutmegYankee
(16,199 posts)That is scheduled for Thurs.
Glitterati
(3,182 posts)One starting in the wee hours of the morning tonight, followed by a new storm system Wednesday.
It's the Wednesday storm that is going to deliver the ice here.

Glitterati
(3,182 posts)There's just no way to deal with the ice and the damage it does to trees and above ground power lines.
For nearly 3 hours now, the local news station has been repeating......."prepare for massive power outages."
