everyone likes to laugh at Atlanta's handling of winter storms.
I used to laugh at it too.
One day, hopefully, the state will get it together.

(25,485 posts)I admit I was one of those Northern's that laughed at how you all handled 2 inches of snow...
Until, I found out my cousin was stranded, and ended up staying at some complete strangers house...but that's how folks pull together down there..

(115,674 posts)Here in Minnesota we don't get ice storms, it's too damn cold. It's been below zero for weeks now. Even so, I'd rather have that than an ice storm.

(15,031 posts)and how a couple of inches had seemingly brought the city to a halt. There were the usual snide remarks and silly chortles about Atlanta's inability to respond to a situation that, at least up near the Canadian border, would be handled as a matter of course.
This went on for a bit of back and forth banter, but was brought to a close when someone from Georgia jumped into the thread, pointed out how totally foreign such weather is to the South, then pointedly asked them to explain Wisconsin's plans for dealing with fire ants.
We each of us have our burdens, and all of us try to deal with them as best we can.
Take care. I hope this most recent challenge proves nowhere near as bad as predicted.

(2,883 posts)Need to experience an Atlanta ice storm for themselves. Then, they'd at least know exactly what's going on instead of assuming an inch of ice is the same as a foot of snow.

Each area has different challenges.
I think Atlanta will have to rethink their plans, but that has to do with climactic change. The same goes for our wildfires.

(30,733 posts)We may be used to the snow here, but ice storms stop all of us. Trees and power lines fall. We have massive pile-ups on the highways. I am afraid of ice storms, and I go out in all other weather, if necessary.
