The NWS says Winter Storm Pax could cause as much inland damage as a hurricane:

<snip>
"Major winter storm part two is underway," National Weather Service Meteorologist Steven Pfaff said of a series of two winter storms that pummeled the Pee Dee and Grand Strand Tuesday and Wednesday and were projected to do so through Thursday.

The inland impact from these two storms, he said, could rival the damage left behind by a hurricane.

"Our experience has been with some of these past storms -- like the one in 2004 we've mentioned -- there have been some areas that've had three quarters to an inch of freezing rain and it took a week to two weeks to get back on their feet in some areas. Some of the people we spoke to said the destruction from those past storms was more severe than some of the hurricanes they've had over the years in these inland areas," Pfaff said on Wednesday morning's conference call to update emergency responders and media on the storm.

"The bulk of the amounts will occur across the Pee Dee where we can have upwards of three quarters of an inch of icing, up to one inch in parts of Darlington, Florence and into western parts of Williamsburg County and possibly getting into Marlboro County," Pfaff said of the storm.

We are up to a forecast of 1 inch of ice, and it is going up every time I read a new report.

I can hear the creaking & cracking of the trees but none have came down as of yet. But we are in the same boat, I'm in Aiken & the ice is building quickly.

We are both in the purple zone of doom.
It will still be rolling over us after it's left you.
This will not end well.

We were out of power for 5 days. Trees were down everywhere.

It was every bit as bad as a hurricane. Actually worse. And I would know, having lived through two hurricanes in Florida.

It's akin to a hurricane in slow motion, with the temperatures very cold.

Ice storms are the worst.

"THEY" don't get to name anything-

They being the stupid ass weather channel. The national weather service isn't using their stupid ass names and I don't think we should honor them by every referring to the storm as the "name" they designate.

Don't use it the meme won't stick and maybe they will stop trying to be some reality weather tv show and go back to telling us what the radar is showing-

As far as naming them, this horse has left the barn. It picks up speed after they are named and on teevee. I don't think it's used like hurricane names yet. It will be it it keeps on.

if the snow is heavy enough roofs cave in. Then if the snow melts too fast it is floods.
