Reno mayor announces support for same-sex marriage

Reno Mayor Bob Cashell, citing the experience of people close to him in same-sex relationships, said today he will help support the state's push to legalize same-sex marriage.
Cashell will appear at a press conference on Thursday announcing a group formed to advocate for an anticipated 2016 ballot question that would remove Nevada's same-sex marriage ban from the constitution.
"I will be there to support their rights for marriage," Cashell said Thursday. "I'm for them to have the same rights."

He served as the 28th Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1983 to 1987 and on the University of Nevada System Board of Regents from 1979 to 1982. He is a member of the Republican Party and a former member of the Democratic Party.
