Ice Blamed For Giant Slurry Spill
A West Virginia creek turned black with 108,000 gallons of coal slurry because of ice buildup on a pipeline.
State officials said Wednesday the ice tore a gasket around a slurry line valve, causing the malfunction.
The spill Tuesday at Patriot Coal's Kanawha Eagle Prep Plant near Winifrede affected six miles of Fields Creek and flowed one-half mile into the Kanawha River before dissipating.
State environmental mining official Harold Ward said it could take 21 to 28 days to clean the creek. Officials haven't spotted fish kills. The DEP said the spill went undiscovered for three hours and unreported for another two hours.

I can't imagine a member of a film crew not dropping everything and rushing to help that guy.
He was by himself.

(24,721 posts)I watched it again & I think what I heard was the man murmuring to himself & his mic picked it up. You & Spitfire of ATJ were right -- he's by himself with the camera on the tripod.

Poor guy. Glad he's OK. Hope he didn't swallow any of that creek.

The ceo of "patriot" coal should have to drink a glass of that water.

(50,983 posts)We rode a fast bass boat from the Ohio River about 15 miles up the Kanawha. It was forested down to the waters edge. It almost looked untouched by human hands. The Kentucky spotted bass were cooperative too, to the point of aggressive. I hate it when humans fuck stuff up.

(3,151 posts)Reporter inadvertently reports on something the MSM isn't supposed to notice.
Reporter falls into polluted river, thereby incurring huge medical bills that the monopolistic MSM parent didn't want to have to pay the premiums for.
OSHA should find that reporting as a solo activity is dangerous and requires at least two people, that would be a job creation program
