since "Russia" did not exist at the time.
Ancient American's genome mapped
Present-day Native Americans are descended from some of the continent's earliest settlers, a genetic study suggests.
Scientists sequenced the genome of a one-year-old boy who died in what is now Montana about 12,500 years ago.
The researchers found that around 80% of today's Native Americans are related to the "clan" from which the boy came.
The latest results place the homeland for Native American peoples - including the Clovis - in Siberia.
Interestingly, however, the teams found that Native American ancestors coming in from Asia split into two groups. One group was ancestral to native peoples presently living in Canada and the other one - which is represented by the Clovis boy - was ancestral to virtually all Native Americans in South America and Mexico.

It's not "The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming". They came here 13,000 years ago or so.

(6,719 posts)I have always suspected this because of the siberian bridge long ago. Just talked my brother into getting one of those genetic tests. Have been doing some ancestor stuff and have over 300 primary people identified in my family line and I am only back into the 1600s. Amazing to think of all these folk as real people -- that was my first reaction. And amazing to realize that we are more related than we know. Connectedness!!

(6,929 posts)on Native American Literature. Our professor, a Native American, told us all about this theory and, in the middle of the semester, left the country to travel to Siberia to speak about this theory. Very cool.

(4,238 posts)I had always wondered about the physical similarities between Native peoples in the Americas, and those in Central Asia. These studies are so interesting, thanks for sharing.
