(31,810 posts)Just so folks know - this isn't 'ghost' pics - but the ones of the Klan looking like Devil Worshippers creeped me out.

(16,191 posts)It's an ancient religious tradition in the Seville region of southern Spain. The robes do have some superficial resemblance to KKK robes, but their usage of them is far more ancient. Unlike the KKK, they also come in a lot of different colors. Nazareno processions are preceded by various religous brotherhoods. They all use the same general cut and style, but each order uses a different color to identify themselves.
Some ornate and colorful Nazareno robes:
White Nazareno robes:
Black Nazareno robes. I'm pretty sure these are the people in that photograph:
In spite of the visual similarity of the robes, the Spanish tradition has nothing to do with racism. As an American, they still creep me out a bit.

(5,279 posts)With Malta being at the southern tip of Spain, I imagine that one's ceremonial religious garb would influence another's.
My source was a reprint of a pencil drawing. The chest insignia looked similar.

(949 posts)but yes, Malta has similar traditions as far as processions in the street go... don't know about the pointy hats though. I think the capirotes are a purely or mainly Spanish thing.

(3,922 posts)But I chose this screen name because in those two episodes, it was the first time the Doctor met River Song, and the last time he saw her alive.

(60,010 posts)Back in the late 1800's and turn of the century, deceased people would be photographed in real life poses..like sititng in a chair,
or at a table, or dead babies dressed and being held in the arms of the parents.
For those who had access and money to pay for it, these pics were considered appropriate momentos, it was known as post-morton photography.
the first photo on that page struck me as one of those.
Here is a page of examples, if you are interested.

(60,010 posts)the deceased were not hidden away immediately. The body was available for viewing, and obviously for those who could afford it, for photography. They held wakes with the deceased in plain view, and parents seemed ok with holding their deceased children.
Since there were so many illnesses and death was frequent, I guess everone got used to it.
Much different than today, for sure.

The resulting page showed the Norton orange box with the exclamation mark beside the link. Hovering over the box said there were reports of one computer threat.
Just trying to help. I usually check what Norton says before I click unknown links.
on edit
I realized I got the orange box, because I used Norton Safeweb with Firefox. If you go to this Norton site, you can test the url yourself.
