I was watching the news and saw footage of the big snowstorm you're getting. STAY SAFE, use your head and be warm. Make sure your animals are also ok. I remember as a teenager being in the Jan 1977 blizzard and being stupid kids we kept on driving from Cleveland to Buffalo til the cops made us get off the road. The next morning I heard about 4 people who froze to death on that same highway. No where is that important that you have to be to lose your life.
On a side note, the news said that 88% of the Great Lakes are frozen over and that cities around the Great Lakes will have a cooler summer because of it.
Once again: STAY SAFE, USE YOUR HEADS, BE WARM!

(27,536 posts)I just measured 8 inches. Snow is still falling but not as heavily as before. 33 degress. I think this will melt off quickly. Getting ready to fire up the snow plow.

(13,877 posts)remember a winter with snow storms every 3 days or so like this one. We are due for 12-18 inches with this storm in SW NH but mostly snow, not much ice. This morning there was a flock of about 40 Cedar Waxwings feasting on the crabapple tree in my back yard. Beautiful sight!

(60,006 posts)glazed some trees, a few branches down. Today - around freezing, raining again, soon to change to sleet then a few hours of snow.
All good here, nice and snug - and if all goes well, I will be taking my wife out for a Valentine's Day lunch tomorrow!
Stay safe, all!

(21,020 posts)concerned about myself, but I got a bit of panic late yesterday when my son in SC texted me to say that things are really bad where he lives. No power since 10 AM yesterday, trees are down all over the place. He and his wife and two daughters were warming up in the car, charging their phones.
No power meant no heat, and although they have a fireplace, they couldn't use it because they couldn't find firewood anywhere. They're eating sandwiches and cereal today, still no power, and stores are empty of groceries. The girls are out of school, but his wife was able to get to work.
Storm is here now...coming down fast and furious. The birds are busy at the feeders.

(23,725 posts)also another reminder if you're with out power, make sure if you start a fire, warm up in a car etc, that you have a ventilation source. Don't use hibatchi's etc indoors. A family of 6 in the northwest died not too long doing that during a storm.

(54,277 posts)There is a foot of snow on the ground, and he can't get to work. There is a family of deer that lives in the woods nearby. I hope they can find enough to on. At least they don't have to be worried about being run over by a car today.

(30,099 posts)another 6 to 10. We already had 12 inches today of snow...tonight's will include sleet but
thankfully no ice.
No power outages, so we're all good.
You're correct, do not go out and try and drive in this weather..not worth it, even with 4wheel drive.
