This seemed almost genteel.

(5,075 posts)That was exciting. The athletes were great. And I appreciate the sportsmanship of both teams.

(6,852 posts)I saw a fair share of fights at The Gut.

(17,086 posts)Most fights I've seen usually resulted in the players getting tossed; it's fair to say college hockey isn't fight-free, but it's a lot less than the pros.
I was there afterward
I saw Victor Stalberg (currently with Chicago) play when I was there.

(17,086 posts)Right on the playoff bubble with the Black Bears.

(11,518 posts)And hey, I know that we won and I was excited as hell about that, but we got very very luck with the disallowed goal. In the NHL that goal (for Russia) would have counted.

(4,144 posts)The "Miracle on Ice" is the name in American popular culture for a medal-round men's ice hockey game during the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York, on Friday, February 22. The United States national team, made up of amateur and collegiate players and led by coach Herb Brooks, defeated the Soviet Union national team, which had won the gold medal in six of the seven previous Olympic games.
Team USA went on to win the gold medal by winning its last match over Finland. The Soviet Union took the silver medal by beating Sweden in its final game. In 1999, Sports Illustrated named the "Miracle on Ice" the Top Sports Moment of the 20th Century.[1] As part of its 100th anniversary celebrations in 2008, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) chose the "Miracle on Ice" as the century's number-one international ice hockey story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_on_Ice

(5,435 posts)...due to my physical limitations, i can no longer PLAY the sport that i love so much...
I go to local college games, and catch an occasional game on TV because i live vicariously through those who ~can~ shred the ice and stop the pucks like i used to...
