The Dunn Trial

From a results oriented perspective it was a great victory for justice. Dunn will be going away anywhere from 75-105 years. From a process oriented perspective it was a great defeat for justice. A guy shot and killed an unarmed black kid and the jury couldn't bring themselves to unanimously say he did it.

Well, at least that cretin will die in prison where he belongs.

The jury would likely know that if they found him guilty of the 3 counts of attempted murder and 1 count of shooting into a vehicle that the mandatory penalties for those would mean 60+ years in a prison. Essentially life without parole in FL. Knowing he goes away no matter what on the above charges, it puts less pressure for the jurors to come to an agreement on 1st or 2nd degree murder, which is where I think the jury couldn't come to a consensus.

I think the likelihood of the judge allowing him to serve all four sentences concurrently is essentially zero.

a medical miracle, a successful appeal or a striking down of Florida's mandatory minimums law. So whether it is 60 or 105 years really doesn't much matter

with accessory? She comes out of store, he says get in the car they take off, she knows he just shot 10 times into SUV, they go motel eat pizza, then sleep and the next day drive 2 1/2 hours home and does not report it? Never calls the police, even when she hears on TV one kid died?
