David Simon on Our Rigged Political System

http://billmoyers.com/segment/david-simon-on-our-rigged-political-system/

David Simon, journalist and creator of the TV series The Wire and Treme, returns to talk with Bill Moyers about the triumph of capital over democracy.

“If I could concentrate and focus on one thing … and start to walk the nightmare back, it would be campaign finance reform” Simon says.

Simon warns that if we don’t fix our broken election system — by getting big money out of elections and ending gerrymandering — we will have reached “the end game for democracy.”

How many professional politicians are willing to say "Goodbye" to the perks of cushy 1% living
for themselves and their class by biting the Hand that is Feeding Them?

It is a Catch-22.
The only people that can "change" The System,
are people that are dependents OF The System.

"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.

"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.”

― Joseph Heller, Catch-22

I cant even recall what show or topic was being discussed, OH WAIT! It was a documentary about Herblock.
They had a Woodward commentary in response to a classic cartoon with footprints leading to and from the White House regarding the Watergate scandal.
Woodward summarized the salient point of the Watergate crimes under discussion as being (loosely quoted from memory) Nixon was selecting the Democratic candidate, his opponent, by undermining the Muskie candidacy.
Easily the most impressive bit of insight Ive ever cleaned from that character.
Of course, to think those shenanigans stopped with Nixon's resignation, or were significant crimes only coming from an incumbent,
does not compute..
If Woodward were on fire, I would not unzip, but that was a devastating perspective to ruminate upon.
its been racketeering ever since.
