A woman charged with the murder of a man she and her husband lured to a meeting point after meeting him on Craigslist, has admitted to the murder and claimed she has killed over 20 other people.
Miranda Barbour, 19, of Pennsylvania said she killed at least 22 others across the US as part of her involvement in a Satanic cult.
Speaking to Pennsylvanias Daily Item newspaper from jail, Barbour said: When I hit 22, I stopped counting, adding that she was coming clean now as she wanted to be honest.
The majority of the killings happened in Alaska, but there were also murders in Texas, North Carolina and California, which she can pinpoint on a map where you can find them, she said.
Barbour told the newspaper she has no regrets for what she has done, adding that if she is released she would do this again.
Barbour's mother confirmed to the Daily Item that she had been sexually abused by her uncle at the age of four. He served a 14 year sentence.

(1,850 posts)and what she did about it, once she learned. The girl needed therapy, and obviously didn't get it.

(10,283 posts)To draw a connection between being a victim of sexual abuse at 4 and serial murder at 18 is tenuous at best.

(1,850 posts)but if she had been in therapy, shouldn't the therapist have noticed some, um, warning signs?

(1,850 posts)Serial killer trilogy--fascination with fire, bedwetting, animal cruelty. All the signs are there, right??

(10,283 posts)I don't see those things mentioned in the link?
It will be interesting to see if her claims pan out. My guess is that she's lying.

(1,850 posts)I haven't read anything that indicates she did any of those things.

(46,436 posts)I think she's making up the part about the Satanic cult and the 22 other victims.

If I had the opportunity? I'd be sorely tempted.

(1,832 posts)Are you serious? I don't doubt her morality was damaged, but if molestation leads you to become a serial killer or join a murderous satanic cult, I think you might have had larger problems to begin with?

(268,670 posts)I posted from the article. I did not say it did or it didn't and I asked another poster why she/he thought there could be no link between sexual abuse and her killing sprees. I know nothing on the subject.

(46,436 posts)Not saying she didn't participate in killing this guy, but I haven't heard any tales of Satanic cults in Alaska, nor have there been that many unsolved murders in the past few years.
It could be true, but she sounds to me like she's just screaming for attention. Psych evaluations definitely in order.

(37,153 posts)Previous investigations of claims of satanic-cult murders have not turned up anything. If she can turn up something solid, that would be a real breakthrough. More likely, the claim simply isn't true and is just one more manifestation of how she has been abused.

(5,141 posts)Clearly there is something terribly wrong with this young woman, it seems to me its a cry for attention, or a way for her to remain "relevant".
.and for the record I was also sexually abused at the age of 4 by a neighbor. I literally won't even kill a bug. I know a few others who were abused as well. All ended up becoming fine upstanding citizens, excellent parents and all around good people. I don't know why the mother even brought up the sex abuse. Its awful, but not relevant, except to suggest that perhaps deviant behavior is in her DNA IMHO.

(5,141 posts)Yeah, it seems a little dubious. I'm staying in the BS camp on this one until there is some evidence.
