I have jury duty today.

Municipal court.
I always go and have never tried to get an excused absence.
I want to sit on a Grand Jury. Hopefully a probe of corruption. Yes, I sound biased. However, I would consider the evidence and not put on my 'preconception' glasses.

I always tell them I am a teacher. I can see the wheels turning as they try to discern what this means in a nanosecond.

A jury pool is like a box of chocolates. Lawyers use every trick they can think of to discern what you are really like. You don't know for sure until the rubber meets the road in the jury room. If the jurors will talk to you, you may get some real surprises.

over or it is a weed case then I will go for jury nullification.

The advantage I have is that I am a WM over 50 and vet and look very conservative, I even answer all the prosecutors questions during jury selection in a way that it seems I am a law and order conservative and not a flaming liberal so I always get picked to sit a jury.

BTW you don't want Grand Jury duty it is a PITA because you are on the hook for a while and get called in on strange schedules to sit in the jury and they do not care if you have a job. It is easy to get off work for a week of jury duty but Grand Jury duty goes on and you may sit 1 day on in the week or all the days or some of the days try telling that to your boss. Hey boss I got grand jury duty for the next 12 weeks and I will be in and out of work then and will only give you about 12 hours notice that I won't be in work the next day.

To top it off many grand juries are at the big court houses in a major city. A friend got Grand Jury Duty and had to go to Baltimore for duty, the court gave them $15 a day for food and parking. Parking 6 blocks away cost $25 a day, public transport was out because of the distance and strange hours of the jury. This was Federal Grand Jury and they pulled from all over the state and they lived 60 miles away from Baltimore.

Careful what you wish for!

Too cynical, they have people lying to them every day.

But good luck and thank you for your service.

I never get picked though. Lawyers don't want engineers on their juries - too analytical. The last time I was called was for two civil cases involving car accidents. Once I revealed I was a Mechanical Engineer, the defense dismissed me seconds later.
