My guess is that there wasn't more than one or two holdouts on the Jordan Davis murder charge.

(3,724 posts)I think I read that there were at least two black women on the panel.

(579 posts)Four white females, two black females, four white males, an Asian female and a Hispanic male, plus four alternates.

(3,724 posts)Only one-third of the jury is non-white. Hmmmmm...

(54,770 posts)could hold out on with the evidence in this case. Dunn left/fled the scene, ate pizza, had drinks, made up some BS, fired 10 times at the van. Only a racist could believe Dunn feared for his life. I hope there is something going on that we aren't considering since they did convict Dunn of the other counts. At least he can't parade around like poor, pitiful Zimmerman. I hope he's retried for the family's sake.

(579 posts)I hope one or two jurors will come out and tell us what went on in the jury room,
my theory is, and it's only a theory since we weren't there, that one or two may have been holding out for 1st murder and couldn't be swayed while the others wanted either 2nd murder or manslaughter.
I'm not too worried, the state has already said they'll retry him on the murder charge and more than likely get it's conviction.

(47,209 posts)they were told they could not- hence the verdicts reached on the lesser charges. Some juror stuck with self defense for the murder part, so there was no reason to split hairs over murder one or two. At least one juror was pushing for acquittal on all charges- it's part of the court record.

(1,655 posts)... would have no problem overlooking the evidence and holding out for a not guilty verdict. The victim was black after all. I don't think a racist would necessarily believe that Dunn was afraid for his life. But they would certainly use that excuse to find him not guilty.

(2,593 posts)for conviction at the first or second degree level while others wanted to go with a lesser charge. There may have been someone who wasn't willing to convict at all, but I'm wondering if it wasn't a more complicated situation that led to the hung jury.
I'm very curious and hope that the hung jury was a result of some saying enough of this SYG bullshit.

(1,655 posts)As a matter of fact, I'm 90% sure that someone wanted not guilty and the others thankfully did hold their ground. I'm as sure as anyone can be without hearing from the jurors anyway.
I keep thinking about the Zimmerman juror who wanted a guilty verdict and eventually caved. After it was over she said she still felt that he was guilty. She should have stood her ground.

(4,806 posts)I seem to remember that the option of what the charge is, is up to only the prosecutor and the jury can only decide guilty or not.

(47,209 posts)defense on all charges. That was not part of Dunn's defense for shooting at the fleeing car- so they were told they could not find for self defense on all charges, just the murder. That was a couple of hours before the verdict. There you go.
