Political speech is not protected in the work place. McCrory insulted, gets worker fired.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/02/17/4702839/after-comment-to-governor-mccrory.html#.UwKcT06PLcc

On Sunday afternoon, McCrory was shopping at Reid’s Fine Foods when Drew Swope, a 45-year-old cook, said he asked if he could help McCrory.

After realizing he was speaking with the governor, whom he disagrees with politically, Swope said he told McCrory, “Thanks for nothing,” and walked away.

Swope said the governor was upset at his comment and began “yelling” at him. He said McCrory said he was a customer and shouldn’t be treated that way.

I'm assuming part of his job is to engage and assist customers. He was unable to carry out that responsibility in a professional manner. Still, hardly something to lose his job over.

I would fire him ... just as I would a pharmacists that refused to fill a prescription for something s/he disagreed with ... refusal to do ones job is a fireable offense.

Swope may feel so strongly that he feels it was worth it ... if so, I admire his commitment to his conviction ... I would still fire an employee that refused to assist (do their job) for someone they did not like (or that was a member of a group they did not like)

I'm in North Carolina, and things are not going well for our governor. He and the Tea Party and the Kock Bros have pretty much comprehensively messed up the state. This man's sarcastic comment "thanks for nothing" could have been in reference to almost anything...it's that bad here. But I'm actually shocked that the governor and his team showed this little political savvy as to to engage in such a small, petty, vengeful act.

I guess the Duke Energy thing is really getting under your skin, eh, Pat?
