One Inch of Snow” movie trailer captures the terror of Atlanta

Contagions, zombie apocalypse, and alien invasions are all familiar themes for blockbuster summer hits, but what about the threat so subtle, it can tie up a southern city faster than you can say “road salt”?

Yes, we’re talking about the sinister evil that is snow, Mother Nature’s secret weapon against an unsuspecting populous that doesn’t blink at eye at 100% humidity, hurricanes or bugs the size of small cars.

Feel the chill with this fake movie trailer courtesy of YouTube user Triloka Love. A sweater ain’t gonna save you this time.

One of the great things about northern snow storms is they usually do not involve much ice or the two feet of snow covers the ice well. In the more temperate regions we get ice and ice is not snow. Snow is relatively easy to drive in compared to ice. I will not even try to walk if there is ice on the road and driving in it is a mistake I avoid whenever possible.

I'd MUCH rather drive on 1" of snow than 1" of ice, LOL. My Jeep will plow through snowdrifts that would paralyze a sedan, but I'm just as powerless to control my Jeep on glare ice as anyone. Well, I have a bit more control in 4-wheel, but not much. Ice is way, way scary.

It was great in snow - nothing would stop it.

My 2007 Toyota Yaris is a lot better on ice. It has a much lower center of gravity. It just goes long as I am careful. My Jeep used to just slide right off the road if there was any kind of incline.

We get ice, and lots of it every year.

That said, I can totally sympathize. I hate driving during ice storms.

There's a hell of a big difference between driving on snow and driving on ice, as has been mentioned a couple of times. What we got wasn't an inch of snow, it was solid ice. Combine that with a governor who was totally unprepared, despite having spent about $20 million 3 years earlier doing "studies" of how to prepare for just such a situation.

I'm rural so there are many roads that get plowed but the snow is packed so densely it turns to sheets of ice. For miles.

Regular paved roads commonly have black ice.

This year has.been particularly bad. All teens are trained here in N Illinois on how to handle a car on ice since its pretty common. We ski so my girls also know how to put on the tire chains as well.

Honestly though, I'm sorry I chuckled. I hope you and yours were ok

...I know I shouldn't laugh but I did. Ice storms are not fun and sliding down a hill into traffic and knowing there was nothing I could do to stop was one of the scariest moments of my life only topped by realizing the truck coming down that same hill was going to slam into me.

Thankfully everyone was fine.

So..I know the fear...and I my heart did go out to Atlanta.

Having said all of that...I did think the trailer was funny. To me there is an absurdity that in our day in age, with all the technology we have, a major city can still can be brought to a stand still by what we perceive initially as something so minor.

Ice and snow storm. The cars were parked and empty, we were lucky we were not hurt (in a Dodge Omni). But yeah, spinning and spinning then several smashes - gave me a whole new appreciation of ice and snow

I was in college....it was an old beater my dad had gotten me to get around school...and when I slid down the hill I tried to avoid the cars by steering into the side of the road but the car hit a patch of ice spun and slammed into a retaining wall which left the back end sticking out in the lane. When the pick up truck came down the hill he had nowhere to go and slammed into side of me knocking the car back around and once again into the wall.

SOOOOOOO thankful I was in that station wagon. That think was built like a tank. I had my seat belt on so I shaken and stirred but not injured.

Glad you and your X were ok.
