Holy Crap.. Watch this Giant Glacier break off into the ocean

Adam LeWinter and Director Jeff Orlowski filmed a historic breakup at the Ilulissat Glacier in Western Greenland. The calving event lasted for 75 minutes this is an edited piece and the glacier retreated a full mile across a calving face three miles wide. The height of the ice is about 3,000 feet, 300-400 feet above water and the rest below water. It was the size of Manhattan.

The sound is also incredible

Probably filmed in (sneer!) Hollywood on some back lot. Only a liberal whackjob would fall for that fake movie!

Seriously though, that time lapse part at the end where you see just how much was involved was totally amazing. And scary. When the speaker points out how fast the ice is retreating, it should really make people stop and think. But will it?

i have had the luck to have seen and walked on glaciers in alaska. believe me, what looks like grains of sand at giant, giant chunks of ice. if you have had that good luck, this is a thousand times scarier.
