Kansas bill would permit spanking that leaves bruises on children

Kansas bill would permit spanking that leaves bruises on children

Spare the rod, spoil the child? A Kansas lawmaker is proposing a bill that would allow teachers, caregivers and parents to spank children hard enough to leave marks and bruises.

According to a Feb. 18 report issued by ABC, Kansas State Rep. Gail Finney, a Democrat from Wichita, says she will introduce a bill that would allow teachers, caregivers and parents to deliver up to 10 strikes of the open hand, and that it would be permissible for those blows to leave redness and/or bruising.

The bill would allow parents to give permission to others (e.g. teachers and caregivers) to spank their children.

The proposed legislation would continue the current ban in Kansas on hitting a child with fists, or with a belt or switch.

To all residents of Kansas, I jest and truly wish you well, but you've got some real nuts in government.

9. The bill should also include a waiver for the child being beat

so that when said child eventually attacks the beater and leaves them a bloody pulp, or worse, that they get off free for leaving marks too.

Both start with the qualifier "As punishment," which seems to imply that spanking kids is okay for some other reason. Now with consenting adults I can think of another reason, but kids????????????

11. There really is no need to be smacking kids around.

What happens to children that are spanked as their form of punishment growing up is that the beatings become a part of life and they no longer care. They just expect to get beatings and do whatever they want anyhow. It doesn't teach them anything except that violence is part of life, ho hum, whatever.

They start to really not care any more about being beat unless the parents beat them to death first, which has happened where I live, what with the "spare the rod" mentality around here. A kid died after being locked outside on a 32 degree night as a form of punishment for wetting the bed. Kid died, locals praised the "parents" (I refuse to call them real parents, murderers is more like it) for their "spare the rod" form of punishment.

Just explain shit to the kid and they'll understand why you don't want them to do something. Most of the time, kids can be taught simply by explaining shit to them. If they do wrong anyhow, find some other way to handle it. Don't beat them. They don't need to be smacked around to learn things. That's just bullshit to smack a kid around like some of these people do. It's awful.

I voted against spanking at all. It doesn't teach the kid anything and doesn't work as a deterrent either.

To add to the tragic irony, it would appear that Rep. Finney is an African-American.....does she geniunely not know how CP got started in this country(but then again, many white folks are completely oblivious as well)?
