Matt Taibbi Leaving Rolling Stone for Greenwald’s First Look

A POPULAR and noted critic of Wall Street corruption, Matt Taibbi is moving to Glenn Greenwald’s First Look Media. It’s a good fit given what Glenn has said his new-media site will be all about.

Matt Taibbi, who made a name as a fierce critic of Wall Street at Rolling Stone magazine, has joined First Look Media, the latest big-name journalist to leave an established brand to enter the thriving and well-financed world of news start-ups. (New York Times)

He did try to claim he won a Peabody, but Al Franken called him on it.

After he left Inside Edition, two of their reporters did win a Polk

Is there really such a thing?

I thought our Corporate MSM was there to stifle dissent and make us bottom 99%'ers obey our leaders by sheer force of propaganda alone?

This implies there's an investment-worthy potential in "news start ups"?

If their brand is professional investigative journalism as the Founding Fathers envisioned as the civic duty of our free press, then I'm on board. If it is more propaganda agenda driven psy-ops big lies, only this time with young pretty hip people in their 20's, then, what do all these investors expect for their ROI?

What's in it for them? Civic Responsibility? Oh how quaint and pathetic.

I was given a heads up on this news in a different thread.. I have admit that I have mixed emotions about this decision.. hoping that his work will get the level of attention it had with Rolling Stone. OTH teaming up with Greenwald and Scahill makes perfect sense..

Taibbi was one of the best things they had going for them. He was always right on with the Wall Street articles. Hopefully RS will keep up with the political coverage. They were one of the few big publications to have the guts during 2012 to expose Romney for what he really was, while the rest of the media was fawning over him and Queen Ann.

But Taibbi is no dummy so I'm looking forward to what comes of this.

Taibbi to me is a great successor of the late great Hunter Thompson. The work he's done to shine a light on the unbelievable and largely unpunished fraud of Wall Street showed what a cesspool Wall Street is, and how it's disheartening that the Obama Administration has mostly looked the other way.

I hope this venture is a success, anything that moves the Dems off this "third way" neo democratic kick is a good thing. Let the republicans have the right wing, let them extinguish themselves, populism is the right thing and the way forward.
