(4,035 posts)I have all her albums (well, cds, that is) and she has so many great songs. 'Universal Soldier' gives me shivers up my back every time, and I use 'My Country 'tis of Thy People they're dying' in my classes, but my personal favorite is 'Goodnight'. The first time I heard that song I was having a really hard time of it, a young college student living on her own for the first time, and everything I had survived in my first 20 years were crashing down on me. That song became my life-line, and I played it on a loop on my new cd player. I still can't hear it without getting tears in my eyes.
Happy birthday, Ms Sainte-Marie, and thanks for all the music.

I especially love the fact that after starting out as a quirky folkie (not usually the most lucrative of music career paths), she made a bazillion dollars as a songwriter ("Universal Soldier," "Until It's Time For You to Go," "Up Where We Belong," etc.) and used the money to not only enjoy life but also further causes she believes in.
