General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe just had a really good thunderstorm here in my area in IA.
The water is laying on top of a thick blanket of snow in my backyard. My husband just called from his job about 25 miles away and said they were just hit with straightline winds and hail followed by sleet and hail. Tonight the temps drop and this is supposed to change over into snow. The ground is frozen very deeply--so deep that some small towns have boil orders because the water pipes have been breaking because of the depth to which the ground has frozen. The roads are a mess with frost heave pushing the pavement up and causing some kinds of pavement to buckle. All of next week has some form of liquid or solid precipitation in the forecast...and more cold.
I'm getting cabin fever. I went into town yesterday to buy supplies. There was a break in the weather. I still saw several accidents because streets remain slippery. I made it back home in one piece.

(146,262 posts)Iowa will also be getting more snow. It's one of those yucky end of February snowstorms, with wet, heavy snow, sleet, and the like. Very ugly to clean up the next day, which will be my job tomorrow.
The snowblower chokes on that kind of snow, so it'll be a job for the snow shovel. Yuk.

(37,364 posts)The ground is too frozen for the water to do anything but run off. I hope we don't have a spring like 2008. The area is still recovering from that flood.
