What happens when a white man and a black man try to steal the same car?

The results of this social experiment, filmed during Black History Month in the US, are predictably depressing.

Jason Robert, who uploaded the video on his YouTube channel Simple Misfits, spent 30 minutes pretending to try to break into his own car, while people just walked past despite his obvious attempts to force the door and the alarm blaring throughout – at one point a police officer even drives past.

But when his black video co-star repeats the same trick, within two minutes a police officer is on the scene demanding he gets against the wall.

For the record, in the US in 2011 64 per cent of car thefts were committed by white people, compared to 33.9 per cent for black people.
