8 NJ Wrestlers Out Of Meet After Lynching Photo

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Eight New Jersey high school wrestlers have been scratched from a state tournament days after a photo surfaced featuring seven of them apparently simulating a lynching of a black wrestling dummy in a rival team's shirt.

The wrestlers from Philipsburg High School have scheduled a news conference with a lawyer for Thursday evening to address their school's "supervision" of their participation in a tournament that starts Friday.

Phillipsburg school officials made a statement Thursday saying that they take the case seriously and "took the necessary actions to hold accountable those involved" but would not disclose the punishments because they are "student issues."

But the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association did comment on the athletes' fate. The group's executive director, Steven Timko, confirmed that the students in the photograph will not be in the tournament. "This is an appropriate response to this violation of the Sportsmanship Rule," Timko said in a statement.

He said the group, which oversees high school sports in New Jersey, will work with Phillipsburg on a plan to make sure such actions do not happen again.

they parents, certain "civic groups" and entire media outlets to teach them.

I can predict the line: "What? Would it have been OK if they had painted the dummy White? There was no racial intent ... the dummy they lynched was Black because that's the color it came in ... What?"

Take away the white pointy hat, the black dummy and the noose, and it's just an innocent prank.

$100 says these kids don't understand why they were disciplined. $1,000 says they grow up to be complete Assholes.
