When he dies they will sell it and keep all the money or use it for the home of another Bishop.

Because the poor are all fed, the homeless have been housed? No more good to be done? Paradise has been won?

It's an investment they will get a return on in 10-20 years. I am not Catholic so I don't have a dog in the fight but would it not be nice if more employers offered those kinds of retirement packages?

the perk, they feed and house (and in my Aunt the nun's case)-eventually hospitalize and hospice you as needed.

My Aunt was very high ranking for a nun- she built and ran a chain of hospitals, travelled often to the vatican and germany regarding other church financial stuff. She never had more than a few dollars. But she had a FT secretary and another assistant, because of her job. She told me so many times she wanted to take me to Europe but could never accrue a few hundred dollars for the ticket. (staying in convents is a courtesy perk) She felt bad about slipping me ten bucks once or twice, because she was supposed to live "in poverty" and have nothing to spare. I know she said the priests were better at working the perks though. But financially, that was the deal. The church made out big time w Aunt B, she could have been a CEO somewhere else.
