CATHERINE THOMPSON FEBRUARY 21, 2014, 12:49 PM EST
The Dallas Morning News' Wayne Slater on Friday asked Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's (R) campaign to comment on his campaign buddy Ted Nugent's admission to having sex with underage girls.
Slater writes:
As attorney general, Abbott pledged as part of his conservative agenda to fight sexual predators who target young girls. Nugent took the campaign stage with Abbott this week where the attorney general touted him as a fighter for freedom because of his appeal to gun-rights voters in Texas. But then theres this, Nugents 1981 paean to sex with underage girls entitled Jailbait.
"Jailbait" contains lyrics like these: "Well I dont care if youre just thirteen/ You look too good to be true/ I just know that youre probably clean/ Theres one lil thing I got to do to you."
Nugent admitted to having affairs with underage girls in a 1998 "Behind the Music" documentary.

(7,309 posts)Abbot brought the subject up regarding getting tougher on sexual predators. Well, what better opportunity to ask Abbott to get "tough" on Ted Nugent.
It's the perfect opening.

Looks like something is burning over there at Faux besides their pants on fire as usual. Found an article at the UK Mail (I know, not that good but it always has great photographs) about the Faux guy with the child porn.
And it wasn't the first time the sleazy network had been caught with such employees, either. Even found a Utah paper going after them, Glenn Beck, et al.

(9,109 posts)And for the benefit of those lurkers out there, particularly those right wing-nuts who like to snicker at what those "libruls" are railing about, may I suggest a search strategy so they can check out Nugent's lyrics for themselves instead of taking some "librul's" say-so: search Ted Nugent Jailbait lyrics. That is, assuming that such right-wingers have the intestinal fortitude to face unpleasant facts, which I have come to doubt.
And another little question I'm sure that many right-wingers would chose to avoid answering: is the sort of behavior that Nugent sings about the sort of behavior you'd like your boys to indulge in?

Their answer would be yes if the girl was from one of those 47% worthless families of takers.

(36,818 posts)It's not as if the pedophilia of Nugent is a big secret. I can certainly understand how Republicans would be stupid enough to let Nugent campaign for them. I can't understand why this hasn't received more attention. Nugent campaigned for Romney as well and like Abbot, Romney was called on it and their answer is simply to ignore the issue altogether. For whatever reason it simply goes away. Clinton was hounded endlessly for "palling around with terrorists" for little more than passing William Ayers in the hallway on their way to a board meeting for a non-profit. So here we have a Republican overtly allying themselves with a child rapist, and it's just no big deal.

(54,268 posts)But it IS possible to push them too far. If Abbott does NOT come out and distance himself from Nugent, and soon, he risks the DMN endorsing Wendy, or at least staying neutral. I still think the DMN will endorse Abbott, but each day he doesn't say anything negative about Nugent is about a week's worth of likelihood the DMN will not endorse him. Sex with underage girls is not the sort of behavior the DMN editorial board overlooks lightly, even if it's the candidate's favorite entertainer, and not the candidate himself.

(18,671 posts)So essentially what a couple comments above are implying is that people who want a few more facts before creating an angry mob in order to to string up someone they "think" "might" be a pedo are now "pedo worshippers" (because you've already condemned the man as such, with not enough facts). Jesus Christ, did I slip into a wormhole and end up at Free Republic? This thread is about a person who has boasted many times that they've committed statutory rape. That is a fact. Let's not use this as an excuse to disparage and slander people who do not share your opinion about a completely unrelated topic, because that just degraded the commentary here really quickly.

(20,219 posts)I see around here more than the specific person who was brought up in this sub-thread.
I'm just sick enough of the constant attacks on feminist analysis, which seem to be more protective of their perceived right to wave their "woodies" around in public, rather than listen to women's perspectives. Childish acting out their lack of respect, as well as enabling a culture of acceptable hostility to women who dare to question the dominant culture.
They direct a constant stream of hate towards women who dont want their out-of context drooling in our faces.
Women try again and again to explain the experience of being targetted and sexually harrassed--and end up being expected to politely absorb relentless hatred--directed personally and at women in general.
Then, the women get bashed and banned for reacting like any normal person would.

(8,821 posts)It will be a monster win if the Democratic Party can take back the Texas governorship. With Abbott shooting himself in the foot, using Nugent's gun (not his weapon) and Wendy Davis reaching high in the polls, this election presents a very good chance of doing just that.

(3,069 posts)This isnt about some aging rockstar way past his prime that simply needs to go away, Davis said during her remarks at the Texas Democratic Women Convention in Austin. This is about Greg Abbott. Its about his character, his judgment, his values when he stands on a stage next to someone like that and refers to him as his blood brother.

(9,109 posts)That strategy worked the last time. Of course Slick Rick had the advantage of incumbency and a still-disorganized Trxas state Democratic Party.
This time, Abbott isn't in the Governor's Mansion and the Democrats are better-organized.
The Texas Republican Party has had a choke-hold on state government for nearly 20 years. The only real campaigning the Rethuglies have had to do has been in the Republican primaries, which have grown increasingly out-of-synch with the general electorate. This time people might-possibly-be interested in a change.

(733 posts)Don't condemn his right to write those lyrics. Some art has always shown morally or criminal behavior. This is good. . . unless the artistis actually commit those crimes, as Nugent says he did.
The artists are portraying a piece of information vital to a society. Art is the feedback system of a culture. It tells us where the illness is. We need to know that.
Remember the case of the teenage boys who tried to commit suicide (I think one did) and the district attorney brought charges against the heavy metal band that the boys listened to?
http://www.nytimes.com/1990/07/17/arts/2-families-sue-heavy-metal-band-as-having-driven-sons-to-suicide.html
The trial exposed the myriad ways in which the boys families, schools and society failed them.

I can not imagine that Abbott's campaign is benefitting from having this offensively stupid, opinionated, moronic, base and ugly man standing on stage with the candidate. I used to take offense, now I just laugh at each new headline. How a 3rd rate rock guitarist has any relevance to American politics is beyond me; the GOTP is digging, scraping at the bottom of their ideological barrel. Keep the hits coming, Turd Poogent.

(32,002 posts)Ian Watkins is the ex-lead singer of British rock band Lostprophets who was recently convicted of multiple charges of child pornography and abuse. Among the evidence used against him was video of him having intercourse with an underage girl in the US.
Who knows if Ted Nugent is guilty or could be lying for the notoriety, as nothing beyond his occasional lightweight admissions or hearsay have suggested he has abused girls. The difference is, Watkins was shameless and stupid enough to leave all sorts of smoking guns lying around. Nugent so far has been able to keep the doors shut...just wait until women start speaking out saying Nugent abused them.

(1,309 posts)Nugent is so found of shooting animals but when he faced getting shot at himself (during Vietnam war) he crapped his pants. We should not be so upset though, whenever anything requires courage, republicans always come up with crap to hide their lack of courage. Nugent continues to make us laugh. As Shakespeare said he doth protest too much. I think he is also a closet homosexual based on his utterances.
