Ever busy ridding Tarrant County of evil, a local Tea Party has found a new threat.
The co-founder and president of the NE Tarrant Tea Party has come out against Methodists.
Republicans should vote for a straitlaced fellow Southern Baptist instead of a Methodist for a vacant judgeship because Methodists believe everything goes, Tea Party co-founder and president Julie McCarty of Grapevine wrote on Facebook.
The conflict was not the first between a Tea Party leader and Methodists.

(19,964 posts)Of course, I could have sworn I saw a couple of Methodists fornicating on the lawn outside the Salvation Army headquarters today. I think they were collecting donations.
Edited to add: do I really need the sarcasm thingy?

(11,481 posts)it's easy to see the outcome of any sort of "Christian" rule over politics and society. The first conflict after the "Christian" takeover would be between Catholic and Protestant. If the Catholics win, it'll soon be a new Inquisition. If the Protestants win, this kind of conflict will erupt between the fundies and the LESS fundies. If the hard fundies win, it'll be between various fundy sects.
That's why when I hear someone advocating for a "Christian" nation, my first question is "Which Christian church will head it up?"

(9,740 posts)As the purity level goes further and further down the rabbit hole. Now we are into which conservative Christian denomination is more pure and conservative. The infighting is ramping up,
Now we in the real live playback of this joke:
I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. I immediately ran over and said "Stop! Don't do it!"
"Why shouldn't I?" he said.
I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"
"Like what?"
"Well ... are you religious or atheist?"
"Religious."
"Me too! Are you Christian or Jewish?"
"Christian."
"Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?"
"Protestant."
"Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?"
"Baptist."
"Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"
"Baptist Church of God."
"Me too! Are you Original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"
"Reformed Baptist Church of God."
"Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?"
"Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!"
To which I said, "Die, heretic scum!" and pushed him off.

(9,257 posts)From what I've read, the UMC is still taking a hard line against these issues (gay clergy and clergy performing same-sex weddings) in order to appease the more conservative elements of the denomination in other countries especially Africa. I'd say most American Methodists are in favor of marriage equality as it tends to be a pretty liberal church otherwise (thus the Fundie objection). The issue is far from decided in the UMC.

(6,719 posts)I do not know. I go to an Episcopal church and was thinking Methodists and Presbyterians and that ilk were more open. Sigh. Smile. Thank you.

(6,819 posts)There have been multiple attempts by the United Methodists to remove discrimination against gay people in their international set of rules. Those changes have been blocked by Southerners and Africans. If it was up to the northern conferences of the United Methodist Church, there would be no discrimination.

Not only did she misspell straight-laced, but she also resorts
to code talk for racism and homophobia. I'm sure any Jesus
I've read about in the bible would not approve.
