I want to say a public thanks to Skinner and EarlG.

Thanks for a couple of recent locks. I am sure you will still get plenty of flack (from everyone for everything ), but I appreciate your recent actions. It helps send the message that deliberately posting sexist flamebait really shouldn't be acceptable here.

so the hosts shouldn't be locking them. The CS alerts failed. Admin stands by jury decisions but, once in a while, they'll step in and lock a thread because it's flame bate. That was the case here. Good for them.

Back on DU2, when we still had mods, I did a term as a Lounge mod.

The day I started, Will Pitt had a thread that was titled: "CaliforniaPeggy is now a Lounge Mod. Everyone look busy."

But if there had been a clearer message from the admins, earlier in the game, that those kinds of threads were unacceptable on DU the people posting them might not have felt empowered to do so.

The community standards are becoming more tolerant of treating women as sex objects - as evidenced by the fact that each of the threads I am aware of being locked as not within the SOP survived multiple jury votes (on the OP and farther down thread). As long as this place feels so hostile to women (even if it is only a few vocal and persistent folks making it feel that way), people who don't like that atmosphere will leave, leaving only people who think leaving threads like those standing is fine to create the new - even more tolerant of misogyny - community standards.

The locks are good - but more is needed before I will feel welcome and drawn to hang around much.

Maybe I am just more willing to ignore the threads that I find inappropriate instead of even responding. And if we all did that, those threads would sink like a stone, or be populated by a bunch of creeps.

But they will not make me leave.

I think it was a lot of angst about nothing. Anyone watch TV lately, seen commercials, read a magazine? I agree that the Miley C antics of the world are tacky, but I def don't get my panties (can we use that word anymore?) in a wad about it.
