Chicago goes to war with Asian carp

The US city of Chicago is considering drastic measures to prevent giant fish infesting North America's Great Lakes.

Authorities are thinking of blocking the city's canal system to stop Asian carp entering Lake Michigan.

Such a move could cost up to $18bn (£11bn) and cause huge economic disruption to the city.

Cheaper options are also being examined, including making burgers out of the fish and eating them to extinction.

1. It would be wasted money

Mother Nature will win out in the end, go with the burger idea. Also, some butt head will introduce the carp into virgin waterways for either the hell-of-it or see it as another fish species to be fished.


It's a fish that does seem to enjoy jumping for the joy of it-Problem is they destroy the indigenous fish population

2. Put a bounty out for catching them.

Since they're an invasive species, and likely good eating, might as well let the fishing community have fun with them.

That crap is like 12.00 a bottle. Net them, grind into emulsion. Plants are happy. Someone gets rich.

Also smoked carp is delicious. I have unending faith in our ability to eat or use a resource right into extinction if it makes money.
