I just watched the closing ceremonies and the media comments here which specifically included statements from the athletes regarding their experience the last 16 days. The IOC stated it hadn't received one complaint from them, and every athlete I saw interviewed was glowing with their praise. Mind you, these were Canadians - possibly others didn't feel the same.
And, the Sochi facilities are going to be used in the future for many events. Fisht will be used as a venue for Russian national football team, the Shayba arena was designed to be dismantled and moved to another Russian city. Same thing for the Ice Cube curling centre. The mountain facilities, vistas and alpine-theme accommodations are hoping to draw rich Russians from the resorts of the French and Austrian Alps to Krasnaya Polyana, the city created nearly from scratch high above Sochi.
"Tentative post-Olympic usage:
After the Olympics, a Formula One street circuit is planned for the site. The deal to hold the Russian Grand Prix was signed on 14 October 2010, and runs from 2014 to 2020.[17] The first race will take place after the Closing Ceremony of the Games, and the IOC has announced that the race will be delayed until 2015 if construction of the circuit interferes with preparations for the 2014 Olympics.[18]"

"The 40th G8 summit is to be held in Russia in 2014. The meeting is planned for June 4-5, 2014 at the Black Sea resort of Sochi.[1] The 32nd G8 summit was hosted by Russia at Saint Petersburg in 2006."
