8 Members of Phillipsburg High School Wrestling Team Suspended From School & Meet for Lynching Photo

This is the kind of reporting that goes under the media radar, because, guess what? These boys were just having what they would label as “innocent fun.” And yet this is the very kind of behavior that breeds the Zimmermans and Dunns to hunt down and shoot black boys, because you know they didn’t think they were doing anything wrong. It was their right as white males living in America.

The defendants say the picture was supposed to show school spirit, as the team is days away from a state tournament.

They received 3 days suspension from school and the meet, and then it’s back to school and business as usual!

Snip

Philipsburg High School wrestlers, seated from left, Tyler Agans, Tylor Petchonka, Andrew Horun, Broderick Bupivi, Jimmy Schuitema, Tim Hinkle, Garrett Wolfinger, and Daniel Wissing, who were scratched from a state tournament days after a photo surfaced of team members apparently simulating a lynching, look on as their attorney, Scott Wilhelm, not shown, reads a statement on their behalf at a news conference on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 in Philipsburg, N.J. The photo features seven wrestlers apparently simulating a lynching of a black wrestling dummy in a rival team’s shirt. (AP Photo/Rich Schultz)

Suspended? Should these boys’ Hideous, racist, behavior be charged a HATE CRIME?

What on Earth are these kids thinking? Not only that but wasn't there just one that said, "what we are doing is wrong, insulting, and should be stopped?" I am just stunned at the behavior of some in America.

Who supplied these kids with that dummy? Was it from the company who made those infamous dummies at the Houston NRA convention last year with the packets to release 'blood' for shooting practice at the Obama and ex-girlfriend dummies?

Who taught them American history at that school? Did they not know that blacks were lynched - wait - they clearly know that - but someone needs to ask them if they approved? How could they not have their conscience affected by history?

And were their opponents on the other team white or black?

These guys are too old to claim they don't know better. They should be punished for this and asked these questions directly.

Although, little sociopaths that they likely are, they'll just see this a failure to hide their tracks or say they are victims.

This comes from decades of Rush spewing racism, along with the JBS and other groups.

Paulsboro reacts to photo scandal with class: Bob Shryock

Paulsboro has several black wrestlers so the implications of racial intent are clear and disturbing, and misguided at best. It would be difficult to believe anyone on the coaching staff condoned the photo.

snip

There is no reasonable explanation for the photo. “Kids will be kids” doesn’t cut it. Even if their sense of history is clouded.

It’s evident Morina and his team will continue to react predictably.

With restraint.

And with class.

http://www.nj.com/south-jersey-voices/index.ssf/2014/02/bob_shryock_paulsboro_reacts_t.html

As for where the dummy came from, I hadn't even thought of that. Pretty dispicable that it was black.

Of course the hateful ideas came from the likes of Rush, and Fox. They also brought it from home. Sociopaths indeed.

Thanks fresh.

It is used to practice takedowns. The fact that it is colored black is incidental to its functionality.

These boys made a terrible decision. I don't assume that they are sociopaths, they did use poor judgement.

I believe these boys made a terrible decision. I would have to see a medical report from an analysis to know if they are sociopaths. Young people do stupid things without thinking. Social media seem to magnify those poor decisions. We don't know how that photo came to be. One of them could be a racist who planned it. Another possibility is that took about five minutes to change their lives, I hope for the better.

'Boys will be boys' is not a good enough excuse for some of us. I see no excuse for this. Not in this day and time, no more than it's ever been since whites murdered blacks for the color of their skin. That is the real issue here, not the words.

Since the other team has some black players, is it appropriate to you for them to pick a black one?

Paul Wellstone was a wrestler. And I know some young men who are college wrestlers. And I bet neither he nor they would think this is excusable.

By the way, I was a college wrestler and I once sat next to Senator Wellstone for several hours at the NCAA National Tournament. We talked about the wrestling and not a single time did politics come up (even though it was an election year, 1996).

A black effigy. With the rival teams shirt. Their rival team have several black wrestlers. Oh lets's not forget the hoodies raised up in points, simulating Klan hoods, you did watch the videos correct?! An innocent way to show their pride!?

You know your history and have seen the pictures of the Klan proudly standing beneath the swinging body of a hanged black man. This is sick. No doubt about it. Sick.

The defendants say the picture was supposed to show school spirit, as the team is days away from a state tournament.

No, that is not spirit.

I can see a scenario where they were doing just what they said and thought they were taunting a rival in the traditional and non racial sense.

IOW I could see them doing the exact same thing if the dummy was white, gray or green.

Not everyone sees or does everything through a racial lense.

1 of 4 Americans don't know that the earth goes around the sun. Do you think they all know the history of Jim Crow America?

As opposed to the frat guys who went out of their way to put a noose on a statue with a plaque and a strong association with black integration into schools. No real wiggle room there.

They're almost always dark colored because dark colors don't show scuffs and dirt as badly.

The rope isn't standard equipment on it, that was added by the little bigots.

The suspension is too short, imo. It really ought to have been an outright expulsion, like any other threat of violence would have merited. You can get longer than three days for having an Advil in your purse.

Not a good place for a mixed race couple. We cut out p-burg from our home search and ended up in Flemington. We knew if we weren't going to find anything in Princeton or Montclair we would end up in "horse country". I've zipped lip on this because black folks in NJ know that's not a good town for us.

You didn't 'ass'ume anything. . . .We only know these things from our recent home search and my husband is very very good friends with our realtor. Kevin (a caucasian man) is very progressive in his belief system - he just wanted us to be happy and have peace. I guess there are some real screwy louies down 22.

That's not the behavior of "champions".

There is no excuse. I think Clinton is similar to Flemington - 60% of our property tax dollars go towards education. The next big chunk of funding comes from taxes collected by the State.

This behavior is simply not acceptable regardless of the community or the amount of testosterone pumping as a result of a "victory".

Well now that they've lost. - I certainly hope they don't lose the lesson.
