("Cinema 12 - 4", because it was on Highway 12 and had 4 screens.)
Two of the fire-breathing conservative preachers in town were ready to tell everybody not to watch it because "it's about reincarnation". To their credit, they never condemned a movie without actually viewing it, so they organized a screening for themselves and some other preachers and educators before it opened (movies usually opened about 6 months late here, anyways).
2 hours later, they were both penning letters urging their congregants and everyone else to drop their plans and go see that movie as soon as possible.
RIP, Mr. Ramis...

(1,009 posts)Groundhog Day is a very Christian/Redemption heavy movie. I love the movie, of course, and have nothing against the redemptive message. I actually find the story to be an absolution to one's (mine, for example), soul.
I am not a Christian -- a die-hard atheist, in fact -- but I enjoyed the movie immensely.
In every regard.
