Sad and macabre. I couldn't do this to a family member, and I've lost several to slow painful deaths. Let them go. Often the sooner the better

was probably so shocked when her daughter died that she just couldn't accept what happened. Couple that with her religious beliefs and she just cannot bring herself to give permission to pull the plug because she's praying for a miracle. And since she believes in miracles, taking her daughter off life support would mean she's the one who ends her child's life, so she probably cannot mentally cope with the lifelong "what if" she made the wrong choice. She just can't do it, so she's waiting for her daughter to die on her own and then, in her head, she will believe she did everything she could. Like another poster said, she is stuck in denial.

and I truly feel for the girls family. If she's brain dead I would assume all her vital organs no longer function. The ventilator keeps her breathing but just wondering how her body is being preserved, nourished, rids itself of waste?? I mean eventually the body will completely shut down regardless of the ventilator?

I heard private donations are paying for the care which has to be pretty hefty.

I cannot criticize the mother, no matter how ridiculous this is. Grief is the strongest emotion there is. This is all around horrible.
