On NPR this morning, in a story about Sen. Landrieu's re-election, a Louisiana voter (Broussard) said "The dealbreaker for him was when she voted for the Affordable Care Act." This man has a good job in the oil industry where he gets good healthcare through his employer. The ACA doesn't affect his coverage, so why is he so adamant about Obamacare. Later he says, ""I don't vote for black people
. I don't vote for black people. They got their place, I got my place. That's the way I was raised." That kind of says it all.
"I don't vote for black people, lady," he says. "No, ma'am. I don't vote for black people. They got their place, I got my place. That's the way I was raised."
Broussard says Landrieu votes too much in line with the president's agenda - he calls her "Obama Lady." But he insists that he might still have voted for her this November if she hadn't supported the Affordable Care Act, because he acknowledges Landrieu has helped the people of her state tremendously since she became a senator in 1997.

(5,924 posts)For example , Barack Obama's place is in the Oval Office, where he holds the most powerful and prestigious position in the world.
Mr. Broussard's place, in contrast, is in his own shallow little cesspool of ignorance and hatred, where he will most likely wallow until he draws his last breath.

(16,838 posts)You never know what they'll choose to find significant when they decide who to vote for. It's hardly worth trying to get their vote. Obamacare will hurt her, but I think she's got enough juice to squeak by again, that is unless some unforeseen problems arise between now and November.

I see a bit of hope in that.

(54,302 posts)It is passed from one ignorant generation to the next, and the more red states try to either control education or stamp it out entirely, the more that will continue to be the way people are raised.
In the thirty years from 1935 and 1965, Germany pretty much learned (albeit the hard way) to stop raising people like that. We haven't learned how to stop raising people like that in 150 years.

They're playing on more than one channel, multiple times during popular shows, and far less during the mid morning hours and early afternoon hours.
Heavy rotation.

He can over look this damage while worrying about how someone might get well!!!
He has sold his soul to the oil company. I bet it is more about who he
feels allegiance to than worrying about a person's race.
I think he was raised up to be a lackey to the Louisiana oil business.

Sadly, my parents, especially my grandparents thought this way. Yet I remember them many times welcoming blacks into our home, sitting around for shared meals, telling storys of growing up togerther on the poor side of a poor town. I still remember them saying that Blacks are OK, if they stay in their place.

We can strive for faster change, but due to dinosaurs like this, it takes probably about three generations to remove the bulk of a problem.

The folks in Dixie, and those places up north that might as well be Dixie, will never ever support you, even if the GOP sells their jobs and water to the Billionaires. Landrieu bent over backwards for Oil, yet when Katrina came, and when Deepwater Horizon blew, the oil companies treated her as a used toy. We need to stop begging for the "angry white men" to stop hating us, and instead rally the real majority, i.e. people of ALL colors AND genders who are just sick and tired of the GOP.

(9,350 posts)I realize some people will disagree with me, but his quote was taken out of context. His quote did not really have anything to do with whether or not he was voting for Senator Landrieu. It also had nothing to do with his lack of support for the ACA. His quote comes from the reporter asking him if he voted for Obama. He answered no. When asked why not he gave his quote.
