I can tell you, my "here" is east central Minnesota and it's about -15 air temperature this morning, and it's supposed to be even colder tomorrow. But after so many weeks this winter of -20 to almost -30 (that's air temps, not wind chill), I've mostly gotten resigned to it.

And that first picture? Pretty much what my driveway looks like right now...

I expect spring to be disastrous when it finally reaches here with clashes of extreme temps, and quick thaw of all the snow that's been accumulating since Dec 9th.

It's also supposed to go down to a mere 6 degrees tonight and lots of nasty wind. I'm so going to hate walking the dog in that crappy cold. He's a winter dude though so he loves it. And he's tired of this useless old crusty snow and will want to stay out a long time in fresh stuff. I'll likely be cussing the whole time (not at him but at the weather). I hate winter. I REALLY hate this winter.

It's 21C/70 F with a cloudless blue sky. We had a lovely two hour shower of rain yesterday so the smell of the air is wonderful and the gorgeous blue mountains I can see from my office window are green and pretty.

I fancy hubby and I walking the Hollywell trail with friends on such a lovely morning

Most of my husband's family is still there and we could get settlement land cheap to build upon. There is not a lot of work for him there and starting over just isn't appealing to me. Besides there's too much ocean around and the village is too close to it. I'm a woman of the prairies and there is something comforting about oceans of prairie grass spreading out in all directions. Is that you in the last picture, malaise? If so, I've always thought of you as another woman. Ha! Doesn't matter. Love ya' anyway.

Sure we've had temps to 20 below ( sorry don't remember the wind chill) but only a week or so then the temps in the +30s and 40s. We've even been in the high 50s.
Snow levels around 2-8 inches and melt.
The polar votex seems to be skimming north of us.
Hang in there, springs coming.

We have had two days of what could be considered a thaw since mid November. It has been brutal and our area gets a lot of wind moving through.

Nearly 40 years. 70's in the day, 40's and 50's at night. And very dry. Way too dry. It's almost scary. Fruit trees are in full bloom everywhere, and even the stubborn mesquites are staring to bud. We need rain very badly.
Two years ago we had the Monument Fire, and, as a result, there are thousands of acres of dead, charred oak trees.
One friend has some acreage in one of the canyons. The burnt bark is nearly off the trees, and I have so much firewood that I'm set for a few years. But I haven't had to use the wood stove very much. Very strange weather here. Nice, but weird.
