Us vs. them

As divided as this country has been for the past 30 yrs, it has given a lot, if not most, the us vs them mentality. It is just as prevalent in the dem party as it is in the repub party. Doesn't it seem logical that at some point we will have to unite or suffer irreparable damage or even demise?

But, how can we achieve this? What will it take for us realize the inevitable? More and more people are living in poverty while the rich get richer. Even an idiot can realize this is not sustainable. Unless the uber-rich decide to put their monies back into the economy, we will perish as a nation. We can remedy this by taxation, which is about the only avenue we can take since the rich just want to hoard so much, but that is what is causing so much dissent. If the rich think they are so much smarter, why can't they see that it would serve both their interests and that of the nation for them to put those monies back into the economy? I don't know the answer, but I do know what the outcome will be without drastic change......and quick!

Greed and gluttony have infected our society. We need a cure. It won't come from either party individually, but only as a united effort from both. If this ole country boy can see it, why can't everyone else?

1. "Even an idiot can realize this is not sustainable." So true. The same principle

applies to climate change.

With both that and the worsening social and economic inequality in the US, the current "top dogs" see trouble on the horizon. But they think there must be a few more years of profit and greed before the you-know-what hits the fan. They aspire to maximize short run profits and income and turn those into mansions, yachts and jets before "reality" strikes.

It is sad that a cataclysm (like in 1929) has to strike before "reality" is dealt with. Of course, no one knows what the swift but gradual cataclysm ("reality&quot resulting from climate change will eventually be.

2. Well off people got rich off the crash and depression of 1929.

They bought up land, houses, business, on the cheap, often pennies on the dollar. After the recovery, whatever they bought was worth far, far more than what they paid for it. The upper crust is not afraid of any depression or crash. They will profit from it.
Only the little people suffered and will suffer next time too.

3. Some did, but income equality was better (not good) in 1930 than it was in 1928.

Before the Crash, income inequality was at record levels that we have not matched since.

This increased income equality resulting from the Crash was not achieved by lifting up the poor but by watching the rich implode with the collapse of the stock market and banking sector.
