(4,407 posts)I told her I couldn't find a jar of Higgs bosons and was very disappointed. Things went downhill from there.

(19,841 posts)...understanding the Higgs Boson. I didn't know that was possible
"It preserves symmetry" -- that's what I'll say if anybody asks.

(60 posts)This search for symmetry has been going on for a long time and mentioning the 60's nicely puts the process in perspective. There is no 'eureka!' moment here in the process.
I have seen every episode of Through the Wormhole narrated by Morgan Freeman. I learned about the 'god particle' first by watching those shows. And it was a delight to listen to these very smart researchers being candid about what they are left with if the Boson proves to be false. They got nothing. They would have to go back to table napkins and chalk boards and fresh pots of coffee. But now they do have some evidence of its existence through the experiments at Cern. I love it!
Great cartoon. It is a keeper that goes over to my Word file called 'bits and pieces'.
