GPO Expands eBook Program for Libraries and Public
(PDF VERSION OF RELEASE)

WASHINGTON –– The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) is expanding the agency’s eBook program through its Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) to increase public access to information from the Federal Government. The public now has free access to eBook titles using GPO’s Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP). Users can search and browse for Federal titles on popular topics including the military, national security, agriculture, science, and health. The first release includes approximately 100 titles, and GPO will continue work with Federal agencies to make new titles available each month. Through the FDLP, GPO works with 1,200 libraries nationwide to provide the public with free access to Government information in print and digital formats.

"Expanding eBooks is another example of GPO’s commitment to serving as the digital information platform for the Federal Government," said Public Printer Davita Vance-Cooks. "GPO and the library community will continue to work together to provide the public with greater access to Government information in multiple formats."

GPO’s Sales program makes eBooks available to the public through partnerships with Google, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Overdrive, Ingram and other online vendors.

GPO is the Federal Government's official, digital, secure resource for producing, procuring, cataloging, indexing, authenticating, disseminating, and preserving the official information products of the U.S. Government. The GPO is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three branches of the Federal Government, including U.S. passports for the Department of State as well as the official publications of Congress, the White House, and other Federal agencies in digital and print formats.
