Dingell launches bid for husband's US House seat

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — The wife of Michigan Congressman John Dingell is running for the House seat he has held for more than 58 years.

Debbie Dingell launched her campaign Friday in Dearborn. The announcement comes days after her 87-year-old husband said he wasn't going to seek to add to what is already the longest congressional career in history. He has held the seat since 1955 and his late father held it before him.

Sixty-year-old Debbie Dingell is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 12th Congressional District. Democrats are expected to easily hold the seat.

Republican Terry Bowman plans to run, too. He works at a Ford auto plant, founded the group Union Conservatives and has been a vocal supporter of Michigan's right-to-work law.
