Texas Sen. Ted Cruz called the investigation of lane closures on the George Washington Bridge “nonsense” today and said the media was piling on Governor Christie.

Cruz said he would not criticize Christie or fellow Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, two potential rivals for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, as he appeared at a newsmaker breakfast sponsored by Politico.

Asked to give one-word reactions to other political figures, Cruz called Christie “brash,” then continued.

“I think the whole Bridgegate thing is nonsense,” Cruz said, noting that the media was acting as though “the most important story in the country is there was some traffic in New Jersey.”
