Veterans don't generally give campaign contributions or if they do, they're on levels that single people can make. Corporations, on the other hand, have vastly more monetary resources and buy politicians quite often.

Congress, particularly Republicans, don't care about people.

It's a horrible expression but it is the way that the military (grunts, not brass) have been treated by the chicken hawks.

I used to think that "chicken hawks" applied mainly to the Cheney/Rumsfeld cabal of evil but it should be painted over most of the 'uglicans and some of the "democrats" also.

As you said, most of the veterans don't have the financial ability to buy their congresspersons. And from what I've seen most of them have no desire to feed the fat cats in any form.

I know he's a Socialist...but damn it, we need someone like HIM to run in 2016, don't we?

Would he become a Democrat to run for POTUS?

Or are we doomed?

unfortunately , in this country , "socialist". and "communist " are deemed the same thing . That is very unfortunate , because they are totally different from each other .

to this, you will continue to see the same ignorance displayed, so I try to make people think about it when they talk disparagingly about socialism. Frankly, I have nothing against communism as long as it isn't attached to totalitarian, dictator type regimes like the old Soviet Union or the present North Korea. In those countries it was and is a fig leaf for the worst type of oligarchy and corruption.

"I know he's a 'Socialist, but....'". What's so bad about being a "Socialist"? Guess what? Being a Socialist is better than being a cut-throat capitalist who doesn't care about throwing hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of families with children and elderly citizens off food stamps. Being a socialist is better than cut-throat chickenhawk capitalists who are so willing to send our guys/gals off to war, but who won't vote yea on a bill that will help our vets unless it has some right wing wish (to go against the President's detente policy with Iran) attached to it.

As a matter of fact, I just thought of a name for a third party in this country: Democratic Socialists.

Don't be afraid of the word "Socialism" or "Socialist." It's NOT a negative concept.

When we poll the American people we see that Bernie's positions are not those of some wild eyed radical liberal but as centrist as can be.

Most Americans want a European style single payer health care system. Most Americans want the wealthy to pay more in taxes—"their fair share", as Bernie puts it. Most Americans are against the stinkin' free trade deals. And most Americans want to preserve social security and medicare. That tells us that Bernie's positions are centrist.

I guess Bernie's mild version of socialism really resonates with the American people.

As an idea socialism has been stamped out by the right and wealthy class that control the media. When Bush stole that election it really was a coup in every sense of the word.

If we continue down this path of no revenue the nation will truly suck. We will have the world's greatest military and nothing else. Every facet of life is deteriorating in this nation from infrastructure, research (except military), education and health to transportation. All done so we can meet the strictures of loudmouth pipsqueak Grover Norquist.

Republican voters need to ask themselves, where did the great public works come from, the great reservoirs/dams, roads and bridges. Do they imagine these things were done by the free market?

My rep is Duncan Hunter. 'Nough said. I ask to build up the piles showing his staff that he does not represent me. Our local Dem club is working to get rid of Hunter this fall. Smile. The gov shut down has made some of these people vulnerable. National Dem organization was not interested until the gov shut down. Now they are helping. We have hope.

I almost threw up the other night when I saw a commercial begging for money for military families through some charity organization. The commercial was designed to be heartstring-pulling just like those for the ASPCA or to feed starving children in other countries...but the needy group was MILITARY FAMILIES.

Shame on the US government.

the way the Bush Administration threw money at no-bid, cost plus contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan. For example, leasing standard GMC SUVs in Kuwait for $7,000 per month! Hardly a peep of concern was raised except by Representative John Conyers.

But now Bernie's modest proposals are being looked upon with such criticism and disdain by the righties. And some of Bernie's proposals were Republican suggestions. It boggles the mind.

This nation has gone clear off the rails.

them out. We need to push to flip Veterans to Democrat! Republicans suck up to the soldiers during war and always have their flag pins on, afterwards when the troops come home the Rethugs try to dispose of them like they are a bunch of Takers!
