Today is National Pig Day!

Happy National PigDay! This holiday has been celebrated annually on March 1st since 1972. According to the holiday’s creator, the purpose of NationalPigDay is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and domesticated animals.” In fact some scientists argue that the pig is the 4th smartest animal in the world and has the intelligence beyond that of a three year old child. This pig pictured was rescued by IFAW from floodwaters in Oakville, Iowa in 2008 and enjoys a new home at FarmSanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY. This lucky piggy may have found a new forever home, but unfortunately, on any given day in the U.S., there are more than 65 million pigs on factoryfarms living in cruel and horrible conditions, and 110 million are killed for food each year. As Sir Paul McCartney once said, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.” … So if not everyday, at least for today on National Pig Day, consider the horrifying existence that most pigs endure. Show love, respect, and compassion for the pig, and admire the pig for what it is - Not just a processed bacon strip or sausage link on your plate, but a fascinating, intelligent, sentient being of MotherNature.

Mine was speculation where yours is true, sad as that is.

If there was any justice in this world he'd be behind bars right now. I loathe the bastard

The only place in my mind that I can justify the death penalty that is it. People like him don't deserve to share air with the rest of us.

If I would have been molested as a child I'd be in jail right now because of what I'd have done to my attacker.

Mmmmmm! Mashed taters and some corn. I took the chops for lunch tomorrow off earlier so they wouldn't be over-cooked tomorrow.

Even in the old days you could pick up a cookbook and follow the instructions for any exotic recipe thet fit your fancy.

I used to make Oysters Rockefeller from a recipe from a cooking class I took, and heavenly seafood quenelles from a recipe in a Cuisinart cookbook. These days, even a child could make a gourmet meal from a recipe on the web.

But I've loined it's always better with bacon.

I love pigs. I took care of a couple of pot-bellied ones at a wildlife sanctuary and fell in love with them. I kept a big shovel at hand in case they tried to topple me. They were so strong.
