Marijuana legalization on cusp of mass acceptance

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — In the ‘‘medication area’’ of the nation’s biggest marijuana exposition, scantily clad young women hand out marshmallows they’ve dipped into a rushing fountain of pot-laced chocolate.

A few steps away, Anthony Ramirez offers free hits from a bong filled with the waxy marijuana extract that his family started producing when a friend’s mother needed relief from the pain of lupus.

Across a vast outdoor plaza lined with hundreds of booths, last month’s Cannabis Cup gathering in southern California attracted more than 10,000 visitors at $40 a ticket.

By midafternoon, some of them are sprawled on overstuffed couches that merchants have thoughtfully provided. Others move from booth to booth, sampling wares from businesses that have risen from the underground economy to create a burgeoning industry of hazy legality.

don't mind at all. Just want the laws enforced for driving drunk or intoxicated (ie. stoned). Too many people die needlessly in stupid car accidents. Too many people getting off with a slap on the wrist for killing people due to wasted driving....

Oh and texting - please don't text while driving either - esp if your hi - too many stupid things happen while driving and texting.....that's probably up there with drunk driving - but to be honest I haven't seen any stats about that....

driving medicated with all types of meds provided by your doctor, usually without any kind of warning to not drive under their influence.

But there is a tendency to go to extremes. And all of a sudden, if there's advertising and legitimacy, how many people can get stoned and still have a great state or a great nation? The world's pretty dangerous, very competitive. I think we need to stay alert, if not 24 hours a day, more than some of the potheads might be able to put together.

There will continue to be a battle. But like Europe after D-day, the beachheads have been won.

I'm heading off for a vacation in Italy and Spain in a few hours, and what I just found out is that there are legal "Cannabis Social Clubs" all over Spain. In private clubs and private homes it's perfectly legal to smoke, and also legal to grow if you are a member of said club.

Apparently, under Spanish tradition, what you do in private (short of hurting someone else) is none of the State's business. Go figure.

I've been to the coffeehouses in Amsterdam, but never heard about Spain. I look forward to my trip.

(perhaps due to what he was smoking back in the 70's)

so soon we forget that it was a "bunch of potheads" who created a social revolution back in the 60's which morphed into a national movement that stopped a war, ended Johnson's plans for a re-elction bid and did not let Nixon off the hook for being a crook.

always amuses me that those critical of cannabis use cannot differentiate between being shit faced stoned
vs. light to moderate use.

Yet they do not come out with warnings about everyone drinking beer being shit faced drunk..didja ever notice?

I kid of course, except not really. I've got a handful and refuse to take anymore opiates. I take muscle relaxers when I need to but look forward to the acceptance of cannabis. Here in Florida, it looks like we'll pass a measure to legalize medical cannabis (in whatever form that takes) in November.

Then, look for several more initiative states, including California, to do it in 2016.

It's our politicians who are being paid to not support it that is the problem.
