I think November elections affects our Politics
It has been said that politics is always about hope versus fear.
If so, the timing of our elections is a heavy thumb on the scale in fear's favor.
November is a conservative month... battening down for winter. Less and less sun every day. All the food you are going to have is already out of the ground. That's it, kid... you'll survive or not hanging onto what you have stashed away.
(That we have a November holiday about sharing food is quaint prophylactic magic.)
What would things be like if we had elections in the spring?
Hope abounds. Everything seems possible. Primaries are all held while days are getting longer and do have a hopeful and sometimes experimental tone.
But, of course, some of what would seem possible might be taking a flyer on tea-party whackos. The same winter conservatism that favors traditional "eat your peas" Republicanism probably also makes people wary of big change, big promises and wild behavior.
In any event, I assume our election timing is meant to be after harvest for maximum participation, but may have emotional coloring thereby.
